Sugar refining is one of the oldest and most important spheres of food industry in Ukraine.
42 plants produce over 2 mln tons of sugar per year. Domestic consumption makes up to 1,5 mln tons. The rest is designated for export. Sugar production is mostly developed in Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsya, Ternopil, Lviv, Poltava, Kyiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
Due to the producers’ efforts the up-to-date technologies are implemented, which results in significant growth of production, efficiency and crop yield of sugar beets.
Ukraine is retrieving its leadership in terms of sugar production and exporting. At least 3 more plants can start running in 2018. The producers have new ambitious task set – to reach the volumes of 1 mln tons of sugar for export.
